ackaging materials, due to their potential impact on our products.

 Per- and Polyflroalkyl substances (PFAS) 
  
 Per- and polyfluroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of chemicals that ha=
ve historically been used in a range of consumer products. Known for being =
resistant to grease, oil, water and heat, they are often used in stain- and=
 water-resistant consumer product applications including food packaging, no=
n-stick cookware and food processing equipment. 
  
 Why are they a concern? 
  
 PFAS in food packaging and wrappers can contaminate the food it comes into=
 contact with and leach into the water supply when it is disposed of in lan=
dfills. PFAS are a =E2=80=9Cpersistent pollutant=E2=80=9D meaning they do n=
ot break down over time and can build up in the environment. 
  
 Research indicates that some PFAS may be linked to certain health effects.=
 Accordingly, regulatory bodies, as well as the public, are increasing thei=
r scrutiny of the potential presence of PFAS in consumer products, especial=
ly in food. 
  
 At least seven states have adopted legislation banning the use of PFAS in =
food packaging. At the federal level, eight federal agencies including the =
EPA, FDA, and USDA are working on PFAS-related programs. In addition, the F=
DA intends to increase testing of general food supply for PFAS and conduct =
targeted testing in seafood. The USDA has developed and is deploying analyt=
ical testing for the detection of PFAS in meat and poultry products. 
  
 PHTHLATATES 
  
 The State of Maine has enacted a law banning toxic chemicals in food packa=
ging prohibiting the offer for sale or promotional purposes of food packagi=
ng in Maine that has intentionally introduced amounts of phthalates. This l=
aw has officially gone into effect as of January 1, 2022 (or 2 years follow=
ing the date of a =E2=80=98safer alternative=E2=80=99 finding, whichever is=
 later)

 Camerican is responsible for ensuring the products we supply to our custom=
ers meet federal laws and regulations of all states in which product is dis=
